Mrs. Coutu Bio

I was first introduced to the love of learning from my second grade teacher.  She made me believe that I could do anything and be anything.  I did not know I wanted to be a teacher until my first semester in college where I had to opportunity to volunteer at the local elementary school.  This is where I first discovered the art of teaching.  I found myself thinking about that second grade teacher often during my undergraduate and then graduate program.  I knew I wanted to be just like her or at least try to live up to the memory of her.  I started teaching in a large city school which was quite a shock to this country girl!  I learned so much during my 7 years there. I was sad to leave but I wanted to explore new adventures, which included buying a house.  I found myself moving "south".  I interviewed for a job at Park Avenue School and found myself loving the neighborhood feel of the school.  I knew I wanted to be a part of this community!  I started out teaching kindergarten and then second grade. I can't imagine doing anything else!  It is amazing to watch children learn and grow right in front of you!

When I'm not teaching I enjoy hanging out with my husband of 18 years and  my 3 year old son.  We spend a lot of time outdoors and love going to the beach in the summer.  When I can steal some quiet time I love to read!
