Parents
Parents and guardians play a significant role in the education of our students. We encourage your
active participation in the educational planning process. The special education IEP team meets at
least annually to review the progress your child has made towards meeting the goals and objectives
of his/her IEP. At this meeting you will be asked to identify any concerns you have about your
child's special education and also asked to provide the Team with a vision of what you would like
to see your child doing in 3 - 5 years. Please give some thoughts to these areas before your
meeting; it is often helpful to write a list to help you remember and make sure the Team answers
all your questions and concerns.
The Department is mindful of the busy schedules families have. Every effort will be made to
accommodate your schedule. Telephone conference calls, e-mail and phone conversations are some
ways we are able to obtain your input if you are unable to attend your child's meeting.
If English is not your first language we will translate written documentation whenever possible
and provide a translator for meetings. Please call your Evaluation Team Chairperson with any
special requests.
The Webster Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) meets regularly. The purpose of
the SEPAC is to provide parental input into the planning and programs in the Special Education
Department, please refer to the SEPAC link for further information.
